What is Norseman Design?
Norseman Design is more than just a furniture and homeware brand, we are here to help you make the most of your space whether that is at home or at work. Our goal is to design and manufacture furniture and homeware products that make a statement within your home or workplace as well as providing a functional solution to help maximise your space.
We are also passionate about our environmental impact and are constantly striving to improve not only the sustainability of our products, but also how we operate every part of the business.
We currently only sell our products through our website and on Etsy, if you are interested in larger quantity orders then please get in touch.
The Owner
Hi I’m Lars, a time served engineer with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During my 25+ year career I have held the following roles:
- Apprentice Engineer (Mechanical/Manufacturing)
- Proposals Engineer (Pump Industry)
- Project Engineer (Pump Systems)
- Sales Manager (Automation Systems)
- Key Account Manager (Pump Industry)
- Supply Chain Manager (Pump Industry)
- Service Manager (Pump Industry)
The Story
In January 2018 I took the bold step of leaving my corporate career in order to start my own business, call it a mid life crisis or a realisation that if I didn’t do it now I probably never would. I didn’t feel ready and I didn’t have much of a plan other than I wanted to get in to furniture and homeware design. Initially the idea was to design and make some industrial style furniture and homeware products that were built to last. I started with some smaller products made from copper pipe and fittings which were mainly sold online through my Etsy shop. Meanwhile I designed and made some bespoke furniture pieces for local customers from both reclaimed and new materials.
It soon became clear from my bespoke furniture work that there was a need to maximise space around the home or workplace, as a lot of my work involved designing something that would fit in to an unused alcove or made the most of a small room. This is something I had experience with during my previous career where I had to design the best layout for a workshop and office space on a relatively small footprint. It is also something I have had to achieve in my own home.
So from the back end of 2019 I started to develop new products specifically designed with space saving or multifunctional use in mind and this has become the new focus of the Norseman Design brand.
Our Values
Here at Norseman Design we believe in beautiful yet practical products and solutions that are built to last, we don’t subscribe to the throwaway culture that is commonplace today. We also believe that your living/work space should be a pleasant and practical place to spend your time.
The environment is important to us, which is why we source all our materials and manufacturing in the UK (no imports) which minimises the carbon emissions generated through transport and helps to support UK manufacturing in general. In a bid to reduce single use plastics, we aim for 100% plastic free packaging when sending our products out and in most cases this is achieved.
